This is the place where Ravindra nath tagore wrote the poetry " Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high ... into that heaven of freedom, my father, let my country awak. From Gitanjali (Song Offerings) by Rabindranath Tagore.
The monastery is very good. Very old. I go upside than there has a place, the public says that Rabindranath comes over there and stays. They also build one building over there and other parts are under construction. But you can enjoy the scenic beauty of green hills and the Himalayan range.
Just 100 meters from the famous Gurung Gompha/ Rinchen Choling Tamu Monastery, Rinchenpong, Sikkim lies a panoramic view point... popularly named as Rabindra Smriti Van...a small park built to commemorate the memory of Rabindra Nath Tagore...the pride of India who stayed Rinchenpong Duk Bunglow for some time and used to spend long hours watching sunrise and sunset from this view point. According to Rabindra historians... the bewitching beauty of this place helped him to write some parts of His masterpiece Gitanjali. The park is no majestic one but the views from here is just fascinating. And the marble plaque depicting famous 'Prarthona' lines"Where the mind is without fear/And the head is held high'... just transport you to another higher world.
" Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high "
This is the place where great Rabindranath Tagore had come. Many people don't know about this place. It is located near the Rinchenpong Monastery. Just climb the stone stairs located opposite to the Monastery. After some steps, you'll see a Plaque. Just go forward and you'll see a sitting place in your right. .... These places need to be conserved.
