Superview Waterfall Homestay is one of the oldest and best homestays near Gangtok. The location of the Homestay is amazing and the surroundings are eco friendly. What is more amazing is that it is easily accessible, being in the mountains it spares the visitors from a tough hike. The panoramic view from the guest receiving room or to say any angle from the property is absolutely breathtaking. The host is absolutely hospitable and kind .

I stayed in the homestay from 2 to 5 June 2017 and couldn’t have found a better base to explore the stunningly beautiful and peaceful landscapes of Rumtek, near Gangtok. Here is why I would highly recommend the homestay. Location It is just five minutes from the main road with steps leading down to a freshwater stream and then cross up to another set of steps leading to the house. From the house, the Rumtek monastery is about a one hour extremely scenic walk, giving you the opportunity to soak up the immensely green and scenic surroundings of the mountains decorated with the Buddhist prayer flags and paddy swaying breezily in the fields alongside. Along the way, you will also pass the Jawahar Lal Nehru botanical gardens with its exotic collection of flowers. Another trail, beginning from the homestay itself, leads through a forest to some tribal villages where you can see villagers at work in the step fields or even interact with the friendly locals ever willing to share a smile or knowledge about their state. The Sikkimese love their plants and outside each house, you will see a riot of flowers in the gardens and balconies, adding color to the abundant green of the surroundings. The homestay is about 40 minutes drive from Gangtok and taxis are available both to and fro, which you either reserve or hire on sharing basis, right from outside the homestay itself. The transport system is very organized and disciplined and a continuous flow of taxis on the route means that traveling to Gangtok and back is not a problem. The property The homestay is spread over three levels, with the first level housing most of the rooms for guests. The rooms open onto a huge living and dining room, giving you the perfect opportunity to interact with other guests. The homestay is done part Sikkimese style and part funk, both factors effectively combining to give its exotic appeal. From the windows, you can see Gangtok on the hill opposite and at night, all lighted up, it is a sight to behold. During our stay, the windows of the homestay were left open, and you could hear the sound of the stream, crickets, and other insects, some of them, who came flying in uninvited and made themselves at home, oblivious to discomfort of a few guests! And while on insects, not to forget the resident dogs Julie and Steffi, three puppies and a neighbour’s cat all adding cheer to the stay. There is a garden and yes, as the name suggests, two tiny waterfalls around, though for some reason I spotted one but didn’t get time to find the other! The hosts The homestay is run by Deepak, his brother and wife, with help from support staff, Ashique and his wife Sharmila. The hosts are extremely gracious and the support staff very efficient, ever ready to service with a smile. The food is great and cooked to order. There are very interesting conversations in store with Deepak who goes the extra mile to share his knowledge about the area and guide you to what to see and do, in and around Rumtek, and also elsewhere in the state. He also helped to arrange our tour to Nathu La pass and Tsomgo Lake. All in all, we were made to feel extremely at home and got the opportunity to enjoy the warm Sikkimese hospitality. I would highly recommend the place for those looking for localized experiences, peace, quiet, fresh, clean air, sounds of gurgling streams, and in sum, an off-the-beaten experience with nature as company. I made memories of a lifetime with my stay, and will definitely hope to visit again in the future.
