Rolep Tribal Homestay

We secured our leave at the eleventh hour. While browsing YouTube, I chanced upon Rolep Tribal Homestay in East Sikkim. That is how I was introduced to Roshan Rai, the chief evangelist of Rolep Tribal. Roshan is a master of experiential travel. A wildlife photographer and eco-tourism professional, he is also an ardent admirer of Rabindranath Tagore’s works and philosophy. I was fortunate to have the personal planning assistance of both him and his team. My journeys took me to Rolep, Dokchin, and Zuluk. Through these places one may encounter simplicity, wildlife, and nature in its most unadulterated form. The experience was superlative: immaculate rooms and washrooms, windows that open directly to the living landscape, organic food, and a staff whose support is as quiet as it is unwavering. Here, you live nature, local culture, and authentic organic cuisine in their purest expression. I recommend his services to anyone willing to listen quietly to the song of the birds, the gurgle of the brooks, and the cool breeze that accompanies walks through farms, valleys, and mountain slopes; to those who would trek to hidden hamlets and savor fare that nourishes spirit, mind, and soul alike. Recently we visited Rolep, Chachal, Lunchuk, Zuluk, (18.05.26 - 23.05.26) under the guidance of Mr. Roshon Rai. Rolep Tribal Homestay, a very nice place for the people who love nature . It was although a nice experience. Whole night you fell the sweet sound of Rolep river. Mr. Roshon Ji, His sense of humour, knowledge will enrich you guys definitely. It was a seamless experience, and everyone on the team was polite, positive, and attentive to all our needs. Food is also good. When you are in Rolep and in Mr. Roshan Rai Ji’s Homestay, do ask Mr. Roshan Rai for a Rabindra Sangeet. You will enjoy it definitely. My overall experience is good.

We had a truly wonderful time in Rolep and Zuluk, Sikkim. The stay was cozy, the food was delicious, and the entire journey was beautifully arranged. A heartfelt thanks to Roshan ji for his warmth, care, and thoughtful hospitality, which made us feel completely at home and turned the trip into a very special memory.

Tribal homestay, its owner Mr Roshan Rai and his entire team, including Anisha, Nisha, Aniwas, Rajkumar and Subinsa, deserve a huge round of applause for the tremendous job they are doing in this remote east Sikkim village. We had no complaints during our stay (3 nights/4 days) here. The hospitality was amazing, the staff went out of the way to ensure that everything was in order. The food was superb (our special requests -- trout and pork -- were arranged and the preparations were par excellence). The location of the homestay deserves a five-star rating, with the roaring Rangpo khola flowing by it. The rooms were cozy, regularly cleaned, the besheets, pillow covers and towels were changed everyday. The balcony offered splendid birding opportunities with rare species like Spangled Drongo, Common Green Magpie, Orange-bellied Leafbird and Black-throated Sunbird making regular appearances. The river offered a few more species like Brown Dipper, Plumbeous Water Redstart and Crested Kingfisher. The hanging bridges of Rolep added another dimension to the landscape. A stroll in and around the village was very refreshing. Mr Rai, himself an avid birder, is a repository of information and a very amiable person. All in all, it's a perfect location for an idyllic vacation. We plan to come back asap as spending a a whole day at the enchanting riverside campsite at Chachal is due.

The place and the hospitality are truly amazing. The peaceful surroundings and the beauty of nature instantly take away all the stress and negativity. The calm atmosphere, fresh air, greenery, and the beautiful sound of the Rongo River make it a perfect place to relax, reconnect, and feel refreshed. The presence of different kinds of insects and little creatures around adds to the charm of the place — it feels like being close to nature in its purest form, where every small detail has its own beauty. Mr. Roshan Rai is a wonderful host — warm, humble, and welcoming. His kindness and hospitality make the entire experience even more special.
